F2 Olive Egger Hatching Eggs

F2 Olive Egger Hatching Eggs

Olive egger hatching eggs. Collected daily and stored in a humidity- and temperature-controlled environment for no more than seven days.

This is a fantastic cross because the hatchlings are auto-sexing. The hens carry a gene for barring (like a Barred Rock!) that is only passed down to sons. So if you'd like to hatch chicks and know right away which will be hens and which will be roosters, this is the cross for you! The boys will hatch with a little white dot on the tops of their heads and the girls' heads will be solid black. It's a handy little trick that saves a lot of waiting!

The only downside is that the hens may or may not lay olive colored eggs. This is an F2 cross which means an F1 olive egger has been bred back to a dark-laying breed (our Black Copper Marans rooster!). This deepens and warms the tone of olive and creates a VERY desireable and sought after egg. However, only half of the hens will lay these. The others will lay tan or pale blue eggs. So it's a bit of a gamble with a potentially amazing payout!
